Botanical Source: Coriander seeds

 

Common names: Chinese parsley, Mexican parsley, Dizzycorn, Japanese Parsley, Cilantro, Dhania, Kinza

 

Latin Name: Coriandrum sativum in the family Apiaceae, is native to the Middle East and southern Europe, but has also been known in Asia and the Orient for millennia.

 

Ingredients: terpenes (pinenes, γ-terpinene, myrcene, camphene, phellandrenes, α-terpinene, limonene, cymene), linalool, aliphatic aldehydes, malic acid, tannin, fatty acids.

 

Properties: Coriander has a mild, distinctive taste similar to a blend of lemon and sage. Aroma is pleasant, warm, nutty, spicy, and citrus-flavoured.

Anxiolytic, diuretic, carminative, toner, stimulant, aromatic, appetizer, digestant, stomach soother, antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, bactericidal. Some studies suggest that the extract of Coriandrum sativum seeds may have potential sedative and muscle relaxant effects.

 

Fields of application: acne, windy colic, flatulence, diarrhea, piles, headache and swellings, rheumatism and neuralgia, mouth ulceration; it is generally beneficial to the nervous system,  prevents infection in wounds, minor cuts and scrapes, helps to combat fatigue and lethargy,  treatment for aches, arthritis, indigestion, nausea and rheumatism.

Coriander extract can be useful to refresh and to uplift the mind. It can help for mental fatigue, migraine, tension and nervous weakness. It has a warming effect on the stomach and relieves wind and cramps, while revitalizing the glandular system. Also, it has been recommended for relief of anxiety and insomnia in folk medicine.

 

It is used in aromatherapy, perfumery, soap making and food seasoning. Perfect for marinades, salad oils, flavouring liqueurs, gin, baking, sausages, pickles, candies, sauces and soups.

Replacement rate of dry Coriander seeds with Coriander seeds extract is 1 kg with 8.0 - 25.0 g correspondingly.

For convenient use, it is recommended to dilute the extract in any vegetable oil (sunflower, olive, grape seed, etc.) in ratio of 1:20 before use as a food additive.

 

Coriander seeds extract can be used as an additive to cosmetic creams and massage oils designed for skin rejuvenation and restoration. It is very effective in resolving the symptoms of body rashes when used in skin lotions. Percent ratios to the total mass in cosmetic and skin care products are 0.1 – 1%.
