Botanical Source: Dill seeds (fruits)

 

Common names: Dillweed, Shubit, Dillby, Shepu, Sowa.

 

Latin name: Anethum graveolens, in the family Apiaceae, a native of the Mediterranean region and Southern Russia.

 

Ingredients: volatile oil, paraffin hydrocarbon, d-carvone, d-limonene, phellandrine, apiol, bergapten, scopoletin, umbelliferone, eugenol, thymol, isoeugenol, linalyl acetate, fatty acids, oil soluble vitamins.

 

Properties: Dill Seeds extract has pungent, very rich and spicy aromatic odour.

Carminative, antispasmodic, antiseptic, antimicrobial, healing, calming, mild hunger-suppressant, diuretic, soothing, relieving, stimulant, aromatic, digestive, natural preservative, infection fighter, breath freshener, mild relaxant and sedative, aphrodisiac, promotes sleep, lactation, repels insects. It eases the mind, calms headaches and helps with excess sweating due to nervous tension.

 

Fields of application: used as a spice to enhance the flavor of dips, herb butter, salads, fish dishes, lamb, string beans, potatoes, tomatoes, cream, cucumbers, cream cheese, confectionary, cakes, apple pie, gravlax (cured salmon), borscht and other soups, improves the taste of roasts, stews and vegetables, used in pickles, salad dressings, flavored vinegars and oils. Matches well with beets, breads, cabbage, carrots, chicken, cream sauces, scallops, seafood, sour cream and veal.  

Dill CO2-extract is also beneficial as a remedy for the flatulence and colic in infants, dyspepsia, diarrhea, urinary tract infections, stimulates respiration, slows heart rate, and opens blood vessels, all of which reduce blood pressure; hiccups, swellings, cough, indigestion, stomachache, insomnia, hemorrhoids, jaundice, scurvy, “dropsy” (congestive heart failure), menstrual pain, rheumatoid arthritis   

Dill seeds CO2-extract recommended concentration in food, food supplements and natural remedies is 0.01 – 1%. Replacement rate of dry Dill Seeds with Dill CO2-extract is 1 kg with 6.0 - 25.0 g correspondingly.  For convenient use, it is recommended to dilute the extract in any vegetable oil (sunflower, olive, grape seed, almond, etc.) in ratio of 1:20 before use as a food additive.

The extract is also used as a fragrance component in drug, cosmetic products, potpourris, employed for perfuming soaps, suitable for use in aromatherapy, cosmetic preparation, healing and body care.

Percent ratio to the total mass in skin care products is 0.001 – 1%.

It is good for puffiness and effective in reducing boils, acne, blotchiness and regenerating skin cells.

 

Caution: Dill extract is generally considered nontoxic and non-sensitizing but it can be irritating if overused.

Avoid during pregnancy.

Very concentrated! Keep out of reach of children.
